Can the Anti Cigarette Law in England Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

A lot has been talked in the papers just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a consequence of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for huge aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But does the net version of this traditional game present a reprieve, or might it never compare to its land based peer?

Bingo is an ancient game normally played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game of late had experienced a recent resurgence in appeal with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the discos on a Saturday night. All this is about to change with the enforcement of the anti smoking law throughout United Kingdom.

No more will enthusiasts be permitted to smoke at the same time marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public places will not be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, which are possibly the most favorite locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be felt in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Numbers have dropped and the business is literally fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they haven’t cast aside this ancient game?

The answer is on the web. Players realize that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, have a chance at big prizes. This is a recent development and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the social portion of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a group of people the rules have left a good many bingo players with little alternative.
