Might the Cigarette Ban in Britain Take Bingo Players On to the Internet?
Much has been stated in the papers recently regarding the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But will the net version of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo is an familiar game generally played by the "blue rinse" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in appeal with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls instead of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the cigarette ban throughout UK.
Players will no longer be able to smoke whilst marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public location will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.
The results of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they have not cast aside this established game?
The answer is on the web. Players are now realizing that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cig and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course gambling on on the net is unlikely to replace the social aspect of going down to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with little option.
