Could the Anti Cigarette Law in England Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?
Much has been reported in the papers not long ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the smoking ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big tax cuts to help keep the businesses afloat. However does the online version of this quintessential game offer a escape, or will it never compare to its real life kin?
Bingo has been an enduring game generally enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game recently had seen a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to visit the bingo parlours rather than the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the anti cigarette law all over UK.
No more will players be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public area will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, one of the most common places where many people enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not given up on this ancient game?
The answer is on the web. Gamblers are now realizing that they can play bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, have a chance at massive prizes. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course gambling on on the web is unlikely to replace the social portion of going over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with no option.
