Might the Anti Cigarette Law in Britain Force Bingo Enthusiasts Online?
Much has been written in the papers just a while ago about the bingo industry being hit because of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But will the online variation of this classic game present a escape, or might it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar kin?
Bingo is an age old game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger men and women opting to hit the bingo parlours instead of the bars on a Friday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the cigarette ban throughout UK.
No longer will players be allowed to smoke whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favorite locations where people enjoy smoking.
The effects of the anti cigarette law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already banned in the bingo parlors. Profits have plunged and the business is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not given up on this classic game?
The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can gamble on bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on cigarettes.
Of course playing on the internet is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the rules have left a good many bingo enthusiasts with no choice.
