Might the Smoking Ban in England Take Bingo Players On to the Net?

Much has been reported in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the anti cigarette law in Britain. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to help keep the businesses afloat. But can the online version of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it never compare to its land based relative?

Bingo is an familiar game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game of late had experienced a recent increase in acceptance with younger people deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the bars on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the anti cigarette law all over England and Wales.

No longer will gamblers be allowed to puff on cigarettes at the same time dabbing numbers. From the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the anti cigarette law can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already not allowed in the bingo parlors. Profits have plummeted and the business is absolutely struggling for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they haven’t abandoned this enduring game?

The answer is on the web. Players realize that they can play bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a beverage and smoke and still enjoy massive cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened just about perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course betting on online can never replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo players with no option.
