Might the Smoking Ban in the United Kingdom Take Bingo Players On to the Web?

An abundance has been talked in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hit because of the anti smoking law in the UK. Things have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. But does the web version of this classic game present a lifeline, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar relative?

Bingo is an enduring game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a Friday night. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the smoking ban throughout Britain.

No longer will gamblers be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 all public locations will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most common places where many people like to smoke.

The results of the anti cigarette law can already be felt in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the business is literally struggling for to stay alive. But where have the players gone? Obviously they haven’t cast aside this classic game?

The answer is on the web. People realise that they can play bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and still have a chance at monstrous jackpots. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the net can never replace the communal aspect of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the rules have left a number of bingo players with little choice.
