Will the Anti Smoking Law in the United Kingdom Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

An abundance has been reported in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry struggling because of the anti smoking law in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for massive tax breaks to help keep the industry alive. But does the internet adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or might it not compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an ancient game generally played by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had undergone a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to hit the bingo parlors in place of the bars on a Saturday night. All this is about to be destroyed with the introduction of the smoking ban around United Kingdom.

Players will no longer be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst dabbing numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public place will not be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favored areas where folks enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlours. Numbers have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where did the players go? Surely they have not abandoned this enduring game?

The answer is on the internet. Players realise that they can gamble on bingo in front of their computer at the same time enjoying a beer and cig and still have a chance at monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has timed itself almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course playing on the web can never replace the social part of going down to the bingo parlour, but for a group of people the governing edicts have left a lot of bingo players with no alternative.
