Will the Cigarette Ban in Britain Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

A lot has been talked in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses afloat. But does the net variation of this classic game present a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its bricks and mortar peer?

Bingo is an ancient game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. For all that the game lately had undergone a recent comeback in acceptance with younger members of society opting to go to the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enacting of the anti cigarette law all over England and Wales.

No longer will gamblers be able to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 every public location will not be allowed to permit smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most favored areas where people enjoy smoking.

The results of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo halls. Numbers have plummeted and the business is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did the players go? Surely they haven’t forgotten this established game?

The answer is online. Players realise that they can enjoy bingo using their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cigarette and still enjoy huge cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.

Of course betting on online is unlikely to replace the communal portion of going over to the bingo parlour, but for a demographic of players the rules have left a good many bingo players with no option.
